What is Frydale?
A village sim about people, not just buildings. Made by one developer, still in progress.
-
In-engine · work in progress I.Every villager is someone
Villagers have names, families and trades. They work, eat at home, make friends and quarrel, sit at the campfire in the evening and rest on Sundays. You decide who does which job.
-
In-engine · work in progress II.Fields by hand
Long strip fields are ploughed, sown and harvested by your villagers, one furrow at a time, and carts bring the sheaves home.
-
In-engine · work in progress III.Bells, feasts and the chapel
Raise a chapel and watch it grow from timber to fieldstone. The priest holds sermons, blessings and burials, and the whole village turns out for the church fair.
-
In-engine · work in progress IV.When the orcs come
Build a palisade, man the gate and the towers and keep the archers supplied. When the orcs attack, those who cannot fight take refuge in the churchyard.

How Frydale is made
Frydale is made by Max, a solo developer in Germany, in Unity. Everything shown as gameplay – on this page and in the videos – is real in-engine footage from a work-in-progress build. The village in the videos is a showcase save I set up for filming; everything in it runs in the game.
I use AI tools for some parts, and I say so: the narrator voice “Flo” and the music are AI-generated (ElevenLabs), some 3D models started as AI generations, the logo and the key art at the top of this page were made with AI image tools, and I get help with code. The design, the village and the decisions are mine.
Every video is labelled “AI voice-over” or “AI music”, and the platforms’ AI labels are switched on.
